LABU SAYONG :)

Labu Sayong is the blackish gourd-shaped water jars or carafe traditionally used for storing water.

1. The word "labu" means gourd, and Kampung Kepala Bendang in Sayong is a place near Kuala Kangsar in Perak. Labu sayong has a double bulb design, like the number 8.

2. Labu Sayong is water from clay collected from the river. After it is fired, the vessels are rubbed with rick husk, called sekam padi. This causes the outer layer of the vessel to become dark and shiny.

3. Some people claim that water stored in labu sayong has health properties, but when I asked the makers in Sayong, while they are aware of the claim, they dare not say whether this is true.
